Tiny Homes

It’s incredible to realize that the tiny house movement has been thriving for almost two decades now. The Tiny House Blog has been a part of this movement since its inception.

We have witnessed the ups and downs, changes in sizes and styles, new innovations, as well as the rise and fall of various tiny house stars and companies. Over the years, we’ve observed different trends in tiny house living, and this year is no exception. While there are many ways to inhabit tiny spaces, the current trend seems to focus on one key theme: community.

This shift may be influenced by the political climate, economic conditions, or the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’ve seen the ups and downs, the changes in sizes and types, new innovations, and the rise and fall of tiny house stars and companies.

In addition, through the years we have seen various tiny house trends. This year is no different. While there are various ways to live in tiny spaces, we are seeing the trends lean toward one key word: community.

This could be a result of the political climate, economic vibes, or the effects of a post-COVID world.

As the tiny house movement continues to evolve, the importance of community becomes increasingly clear. While many dream of escaping to a tiny house in the woods, the reality can be challenging, especially when faced with solitude or the challenges of aging.

This year, let’s celebrate the trend of community in tiny housing by exploring various options:

**Pocket Neighborhoods**

Pocket neighborhoods consist of a group of small houses clustered around a shared common area. These compact communities have been developing over the past few decades, and more cities are now allowing the construction or conversion of small or tiny houses in these configurations.

**Tiny Houses in Home Parks**

RV parks are beginning to embrace the idea of tiny houses alongside traditional recreational vehicles. Both park models and tiny houses on wheels can be found nestled among standard RVs. These parks provide an affordable and secure environment for tiny house owners, allowing them to share utilities and resources with other residents.

**Pods**

Pods are detached cottages or tiny homes situated near a main house. They offer elderly parents or young adults transitioning from the family home a chance to have their own independent space. Furthermore, they don’t have to conform to traditional tiny house designs; they can also be converted garages, backyard sheds, or finished basements.

**Shared Housing **

Multi-generational and shared housing arrangements are gaining popularity. While these homes may not be tiny, they can be modified to accommodate multiple generations or groups of people. Separate living spaces and parking can be integrated into existing homes or new builds.

**Backyard RV Living**

Tiny houses can often be expensive, and finding an appropriate spot for them can sometimes be limited or even illegal. In rural areas, many people are opting for RVs to house themselves or family members in their backyards. RVs provide a more affordable solution for living close to a main house and its amenities.

Let’s celebrate this year’s tiny house trend of community with different options:
