There are numerous contractors available who specialize in floor staining and are willing to travel almost anywhere. Barndo Plans even provides free instructions for staining your own floors. My friend Matt in Virginia, with whom we constructed a building, was facing a cost of over $20,000 for his flooring. In need of a vacation, I offered to help him with the task. Stained floors aren’t common in Virginia, and there was some skepticism, but I assured him that the materials would only cost $800, so there was little to lose. Ultimately, we completed the project in two days, and now it’s the highlight of his home.
