The thickness of interior walls is 2×4 studs, except for plumbing walls, which are 2×6 studs. exterior walls are 2×6 studs, red iron columns are typically 8 inches thick. With the addition of sheetrock, this makes the exterior walls 12 inches thick. Pole Barn walls are usually 6 thick due to the x6 inch posts with 2×6 studs framed in between the posts.
Insulation in the walls
Red Iron walls typically have a cavity that can accommodate insulation, similar to wooden frames. The insulation is a critical factor that can slightly affect the final wall thickness. Insulation not only enhances energy efficiency but also improves soundproofing. Thicker insulation can be utilized in steel-framed without increasing the wall thickness, due to the strength and stability of the studs. We generally recommend a product called Double Bubble, which is placed between the frame and the metal panels. product has an excellent heat transfer rating, making it highly effective in hot summers. Double Bubble performs well in cold winters by preventing the cold from the walls quickly.
